Hmong Cycling Club??

Hmong Cycling Club?? is something I did for my friends and I last Summer but never got around to finishing.

A ton of my friends picked up biking so I decided to make a cool badge/patch lockup for the group. Plus it was an excuse for me to start pushing pixels again.

Of course, HCC isn’t exclusive to only Hmongs. All groups welcomed ??! HCC is about being together, enjoying conversations, being with good company and all while getting a good exercise.

The main, “H” mark is a combination of an H + Bike + Hmong snail motif (also serves as two subtle C’s). The Hmong snail motif represents life longevity. Which is an iconic symbol in Hmong embroidery work and culture.

I wanted to make something that felt hand crafted, imperfect, and authentic. Similar to Hmong textile work or Paj Ntaub. Also, shout to @joshuanoom for his awesome Lockdown type! Such a fun one to work with!

The phrase “Caij Ua Kes Lom Zem” translates to “Riding together is much more enjoyable” or “Riding together is better company”. The other phrase, “Caij ua si” means “riding for the fun/to play”. I’m sure I’ve botched the translation.

I had some other color options but decided not to stress myself out with those options. I’ve got to remember to not get so attached to personal work and just create. I’ll be sure to share some of those options as well. Hope ya’ll enjoy!
