WccfTech Home Page

Wccftech is a leading technology publication owned by?Wccf Tech Inc?that brings the latest from hardware, mobile and gaming industries in the news, reviews, guides and more.

In 2020, Wccftech decided to revamp its entire design language. Users faced a lot of trouble navigating through the old website and finding relevant stuff. Moreover, they could not find any preferred categories or related stories available on the website. There was no personalization and low content discovery. Also, the design felt outdated with poor organization, labels, layout, consistency, absence of accessibility, and aesthetics.

After this investigation, I set out to reimagine the Wccftech and enhance the experience in the best way I could.

Objectives for the redesign:

  • To deliver a personalized experience and intuitive user interface.

  • Propose a more engaging and seamless reading experience so that users are comfortable accessing stories.

Since I had already used the website and had some idea about it, I decided to do an in-depth analysis of the website first. I wanted to understand the functionalities, general architecture, and navigation.

Through the analysis, I was able to identify some obvious usability issues and pain points. I listed all of them to validate.

After identifying and studying pain points and needs through user research, I defined the problems users were most concerned with.

Some of the facts are listed below:

  • Most of the users complained that UI made it hard to read, and they had to keep going back and forth to discover relevant stories. Font and spacing made it look overcrowded. Many found the body text font slightly undersized and the heading font not reasonably large or bold, leading to a below-par reading experience.

  • Numerous users undoubtedly communicated that they would prefer the old desktop site, not the mobile site, as it lacks many qualities. Users pointed out that the mobile site was not as user-friendly as the desktop site.

  • Users wanted more segmented news so that they could browse through various categories. They felt there was not a good organization of stories.

  • And a lot more.

Furthermore, users voiced that they wanted more customization choices for themes, notifications, and categories. They wanted the content displayed to be prioritized based on their preference. Users wanted more features than reading and sharing, such as saving, voting up/down for comments, and reading offline.
