Bathara Kala
This pattern was made based on Indonesian folklore named Solar Eclipse. Solar Eclipse (Gerhana Matahari in Bahasa) occurs when a portion of the Earth is engulfed in a shadow cast by the Moon which fully or partially blocks sunlight. The ancient people traditionally believe that the solar eclipse is a dangerous phenomenon, which takes place due to the anger of a supranatural power.
A long time ago, there was a giant named Batara Kala disguised as a God to steal the water of immortality. Unfortunately, he was caught red-handed by Lord Vishnu when he drank a sip of the water of immortality. Lord Vishnu shot Batara Kala's neck until it broke. But because the water of immortality has flowed, the head to the neck of the Batara Kala does not disappear beside it is flew eternal in the sky. He took revenge by swallowing the sun so humans will live in the darkness. This eventuality was believed as the cause of solar eclipse. Lesung and Kentongan were banged to make noises to get Batara Kala to spew back the sun he had swallowed. However, the sun will still come out from the end of Batara's severed neck. This indicates that the solar eclipse will end soon.
