Working Not Working - Talking Not Talking
Working Not Working, a platform for freelance creatives, started a monthly support group for creatives to listen and be heard. Sitting in a circle, people can share their experiences around monthly themes like Doubt, Reinvention, Courage, Letting Go, and Imposter Syndrome. Talking Not Talking meetings were taking place in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco every month. The meetings are now happening on Zoom because of the pandemic. To attend a meeting, create an account on WorkingNotWorking.com.
I hosted the San Francisco meetings from 2018–2020 (until the pandemic). I led each meeting by sharing a personal career story involving the meeting's theme (doubt, courage, fear, etc...), and would often write and read short essays. The meetings started with a group of strangers, but by the end of the meetings people felt connected, gained insight and awareness, and left feeling inspired.
As the host/meeting moderator, I had the chance to meet hundreds of amazing creatives. This was among the best things I've been a part of in my career.
If you're feeling like you need direction in your career, are going through a low moment, or need inspriation, I'm available to help. I have mentored many creatives over the years, and am always happy to offer my mentoring services (for free of course!). Please note, I'm happy to listen and share my personal experiences (and I can speak to a wide range of topics), but I will NOT give you specific advice. You know yourself and your situation better than anyone else, and you are the most qualified to make the big decisions in your life. You've got this! The design community has given me so much, and I enjoy giving back. Message me here, and take good care.
