How team adaptivity helps save money

Our Head of Projects – Vlad Migulia takes the floor.

Most people want a refined and clear working process that leads to predictable outcomes. The more predictable the process, the less money we lose on unexpected table turns. The method or framework becomes art only when you know how to work with unforeseen events and don’t lose money.

Embrace the change

The only constant in life is a change. The same goes for creative projects. The only way to make yourself feel comfortable in what makes you uncomfortable is to get used to a lack of comfort from time to time.

It may make no sense at first glance since you can’t make yourself feel OK in what brings you stress. Or can you?

Stress is not your enemy if dosed properly

Most people don’t like stress. It is usually disarming. The project starts well, then something pops up and the client brings in expectations we didn’t know about before, the team becomes stressed and loses its grip, and the agency loses money on stabilizing instead of pushing things forward.

If you have embraced the change, you need to embrace the stress that goes with this change. By doing that you get closer to the bar where you stop losing a grip.

Check the project vitals instead of yourself

You don’t need to check your vitals if you are prepared for a change and stress. That means you can focus on bringing value continuously into the project. The more continuously you bring the value, the happier the stakeholders and the less time you spend figuring out instead of acting.

That is a tough skill to develop, yet should be a mandatory part of a good manager skillset.

Plan, do, check, act.

We are getting to essentials.

1. Always plan, but never forget to embrace the change.

2. Do as you planned, but expect the stress around the corner.

3. Face the stress and check your project vitals without losing a grip.

4. Act and push things forward instead of focusing on avoiding the change in the future. Change will come back. Don’t repeat the same mistakes, obviously.
