Welcome to the Wines of the World series, where today we're spotlighting Riesling. Recently, I've become captivated by the vast array of wines the world has to offer. Inspired by my New Year's resolution to create a new piece of work every day, I've decided to design a unique wine label for each type of wine I explore.

About Riesling

Riesling is a versatile white grape variety that originates from Germany's Rhine region and is cherished for its remarkable range of styles from bone dry to lusciously sweet. It is renowned for its vibrant acidity, floral aromatics, and pure expressions of terroir, often presenting flavors of green apple, apricot, and peach, with a distinctive note of honeycomb or petrol in aged varieties. Riesling's ability to age gracefully allows its complex flavors to evolve, making it a favorite among collectors and wine enthusiasts. This wine pairs wonderfully with spicy dishes, sushi, and rich cheeses, making it a dynamic choice for an array of culinary adventures.

About the Design

Recently, I've been scouring the collections of the British Library, the Library of Congress, and various online archives for historical botanical illustrations. For the Sancerre label, I've chosen an illustration of a vibrant, yellow Daffodil, capturing the wine's fresh essence. This is paired with an elegant, old-world script font that reflects the storied tradition of winemaking.
