Strandbeest

So I recently bought Newton 2, a great 2D physics plugin for After Effects, and I thought I would challenge myself to make something a little bit different with it.

Enter the Strandbeest, an amazing kinetic sculpture by Theo Jansen(google him, he makes awesome art). The main component of the Strandbeest is the leg mechanism which is operated by an offset spinning axle to simulate a smooth walking motion.

So I copied the design and rigged it up in Newton 2 and this was the result, a simulated Strandbeest. If you have Newton 2 and want to check out how I did just download the AE file and the Newton XML file.
