Patience With Imperfection

I've been going through a season of wrestling with myself, and during those times I've found every now and then a word or a phrase will rise to the top of my mind that I could grasp onto and be more at peace. Recently, the phrase was "patience and slow-growth". That idea inspired me and I wanted to visualize it artistically as a Guiding Principle for myself and for Dependent Creature Design Co.

The quote here was adapted from an article by Jon Bloom entitled Be Patient with Your Slow Growth.

The background is a detail photograph of my mixed-media painting on wood "Wax Flowers". Melted colored wax was used on this piece and lines were cut with a razor blade once dry.

I'm simultaneously learning and teaching a drawing course to middle school students where we created negative space drawings of plants. I used mine as an overlay on top of the "Wax Flowers" background.
