Twitter iOS Menu

Saw @elischiff's redesign of the Twitter iOS menu.

As I said in the comment section of his shot, I think that his original idea is smart and well executed.

However as I mentioned, in this context, I wasn't convinced about the use of a card+drop shadow combination.

This visual choice is somehow adding complexity to the screen, but even more, it "breaks" with the consistency of the app. I can't remember an other part of the experience applying these visual concepts.

Also grouped the icons at the top section of the sidebar. I did not feel like keeping them at the bottom because the proximity with the navbar icons would be disturbing. Consequence of this move is that the "more" button pops out less, but I can't really say that it's gonna be a problem.

Apart from that, I've added some consistent motion for iOS (home screen's subtle slide to the right). It's interesting because it helps at creating a meaningful motion, but also allows to hide the "create tweet" button. Without moving the surface, it'd still be visible, and its color would unnecessary attract user's attention.

Regarding motion again, with the production version currently in use, sliding the whole main screen feels heavy. It makes sense, but it really feels unnecessary heavy (probably bc of a combination of the amount of data sliding and the distance travelled). Also, why the dark overlay is covering everything BUT the nav bar? And why on iPad for example, the home + search icons are still clickable? On-touch, they are switching the content WITHOUT hiding the sidebar and removing the dark overlay. I know, it's a detail, but hey.

So yeah, less friction, already solved by Eli. And maybe more simplicity + a better consistency with this one.
